Ancient Processes, Contemporary Practice by Louis Jansen van Vuuren 2900 euros

Join acclaimed artist and author Louis Jansen van Vuuren for an immersive six-day art residency in the heart of the French countryside. Hosted in collaboration with Château de Najade, this intensive studio programme invites artists to explore the rich creative possibilities of ancient techniques within a contemporary context.

Participants will reside at Château de Najade and travel daily to Louis’s studio at Le Rembucher, where practical sessions, demonstrations, and individual mentoring will take place in an inspiring rural setting.

The course centres on the historic techniques of gesso and encaustic, while encouraging experimentation across a variety of substrates, including Fabriano paper, French linen, and layered wooden panels. Participants may choose to engage deeply with a single medium or explore the full range of processes presented.

Through material exploration, mixed-media experimentation, and the study of Werner’s Nomenclature of Colours by P. Syme, artists will expand their understanding of colour, surface, and visual language.

Emphasising process, experimentation, and critical reflection, this residency is designed to nurture each participant's unique creative voice, fostering both artistic growth and individual expression within a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment.
